A New Process Group for Therapists and Social Workers
A new process group for therapists and other mental health professionals is starting in the New Year and I am generating a list of interested people. It will be a mixed gender, interpersonal process group. It is open to professionals of all experience levels and career stages and all identities. Those early in their practice are especially encouraged to apply. The group will begin its life in an online format. The cost of the group will be $50 per session. Time and day TBD.
It has been said that making and sustaining human connections is the very purpose of living; it is the reason we are all here--the reason we do the work that we do. Yet, it is common for therapists to leave themselves behind and to be so outwardly directed and focused on their clients that they forget to continue the essential inner work of examining and processing their emotional, relational, and spiritual needs. How much more important is this for us in the time of COVID, political strife, and overwhelming uncertainty?
Yet, we have the capacity to remember ourselves. For an hour or so each week, we can come together with others and join in a group process. Doing this allows for long held hurts to be brought into the room and explored. It provides space and time for us to listen in and know our subtle emotions and feelings, and then to share them with others in an environment of mutuality. The outcome is less loneliness and stress, greater inner peace, a better ability to know and communicate our feelings with the important people in our lives, and an improved capacity to be with our clients--to listen, to perceive, and to know them deeply.

Sheehan Psychotherapy Associates in Warwick
We are a growing group of experienced therapists with the goal of providing excellent care in a warm, safe, and supportive environment. We support professional development and continuing education for our staff. We also have regular staff meetings in order to stay connected and consult with one another about cases.
With the extension of the Executive Order allowing for telehealth to continue, we have been able to offer services virtually, by phone, and in-person. We plan to continue allowing telehealth sessions for as long as we are able to do so, and our therapists and staff have acclimated to the changes very well. Due to the uncertainty of the current pandemic, we have seen an increase in referrals seeking counseling for a variety of issues. Clients need us now more than ever, and we are looking to hire both full-time and part-time LICSWs to provide quality care in response to the increase of referrals.
